چکیده

Objective/purpose Eosinophil infiltration of gut tissue plays a key role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as ulcerative colitis. Using a model of allergic asthma, we previously demonstrated that eosinophil migration requires surface expression of the sialomucin CD34, and that Cd34 deletion dampens asthmatic responses in mice. Since CD34 is critical for eosinophil migration, we investigated a role for CD34 in the migration of inflammatory cells into the colon using a mouse model of IBD.

CD34 is required for infiltration of eosinophils into the colon and pathology associated with DSS-induced ulcerative colitis.

Eosinophil migration into the gut and the release of granular mediators plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis. We recently demonstrated that eosinophil migration into the lung requires cell surface expression of the sialomucin CD34 on mast cells and eosinophils in an asthma model. Based on these findings, we investigated a similar...

Vancomycin-sensitive bacteria trigger development of colitis-associated colon cancer by attracting neutrophils.

Inflammatory bowel disease confers an increased risk of developing colitis-associated colon cancer (CAC). During the active colitis or developing tumor stage, commensal bacteria show dynamic translocation. However, whether alteration of the bacterial composition in the gut causes CAC is still unclear. To clarify the effect of commensal bacteria on CAC development, we employed an azoxymethane (A...

Effects of Yacon on Colonic IFN-γ and Goblet Cells of 2,4,6-Trinitrobenzene Sulfonic Acid-Induced Colitis Mouse Model

Background: IBD is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier. Supplementation of yacon tubers has been known to give positive effect in intestinal health. Therefore, we conducted the study to investigate the effect of yacon tuber powder on Th1 activation pathway by evaluating IFN-γ levels and the number of goblet cells in the colon of colitis mous...

Calycosin attenuates dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced experimental colitis

Objective(s):Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) results from dysregulation of intestinal mucosal immunity. It is an incurable disease that affects millions of people worldwide. Developing new strategies for the treatment of colitis has been a major challenge. Here, we report the effect of calycosin, a plant-derived flavonoid, in successfully managing colitis in murine model. Material and Methods:...

Sodium 4-phenylbutyrate suppresses the development of dextran sulfate sodium-induced colitis in mice

Sodium 4-phenylbutyrate (PBA) exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by suppressing nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation. In the present study, the effects of PBA on a mouse model of dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis were investigated. The therapeutic efficacy of PBA (150 mg/kg body weight) in DSS-induced colitis was assessed based on the disease activity index (DAI), colon length, the p...
